What instrument to play?
25 May 2007As you begin to think of playing a musical instrument, you need to think of what instrument you would enjoy the most. There are numerous instruments to choose from. You could choose something as simple as a harmonica, or as difficult as a bassoon. First of all, to make that decision, let’s answer another question. What is your ultimate goal in learning to play a musical instrument? Are you or your child planning to sign up for band or orchestra in school? Do you want to play strictly for your own enjoyment and relaxation? Do you have your sights set on becoming a semi-professional or professional musician, or do you just want to be able to get together with friends a jam? How about joining a garage band? (That is a beginning band that typically rehearses in one of the member’s garage, or the garage of one of their parents.) How about performing classical music on the piano? Maybe you want to become a concert pianist. Or perhaps you have a need to learn the piano or organ to become an accompanist for you church. Or you are studying education and feel the need to have some background in music…so often times your goal can play into what type of instrument you want to learn.
Next time we’ll talk about why it is important to have some sort of musical training, regardless of what instrument it is, and how that can benefit you…
